David Song 17 - While David and His Army were Running
(1 Samuel 30)

1. While David and his army were running from Saul,
The Amalikites invaded and they captured all
The wives and the families of David and his men,
They burned the town of Ziklag and took off with them.

When David and his men saw that they'd been robbed,
They prayed and cried unto the Lord, they really sobbed!
But God said, PURSUE! You will overtake them;
You'll rescue ev'ryone and bring them back again.

2. Six hundred men went with David that day,
And chased those Amalikites a long, long way.
They ran and ran and ran until their legs were sore,
And rested at the border of the brook Besor.

Two hundred men were completely worn out,
But David said, you rest right here and we'll go scout.
You stay with the stuff, and the others will go.
So four hundred went on across the Besor's flow.

3. When David found the Amalikite band,
They were celebrating all they stole from David's land;
But what a surprise when the four hundred men
All fought for a night and day and overcame them!

They rescued their folks that glorious day,

Their wives and daughters and sons they got,
And cattle and the flocks and all the herds —a lot!

4. Then back to the brook where the two hundred waited;
Some of the four hundred hesitated.
Why should we share when they didn't fight?
Give the fighters all the flocks and herds, now that seems right!

God is the one who fought for us, that's so.
